Modern Interior Design

Modern Interior Design

Modern interior design is often confused with contemporary design, but it’s really more similar to mid-century modern.

Modern design typically refers to anything produced after World War II, which overlaps with the period for mid-century modern design.

Features of modern interior design include:

  • minimalism
  • neutral colors (beige, ivory, taupe, black, gray, white)
  • streamlined
  • very little decoration
  • unadorned
  • clean and simple design lines
  • bare floors (typically wood floors or concrete floors)
  • glass
  • open furniture
  • asymmetry
  • geometric shapes
  • polished metal

If you like modern interior design, you might also like elements from mid-century modern design, contemporary design, and minimalist design.
