Mountain Cabin Interior Design

Cabin And Mountain Interior Design

In the West, we have a distinctive interior design style, often referred to as “cabin” or “mountain home.”

This look is predominant in the foothills outside of Denver and in many of the mountain towns (such as Evergreen, Beaver Creek, Vail, Winter Park, and Breckenridge). But the cabin and mountain style can also find its way into Denver area homes.

Features of cabin and mountain home interior design include:

  • raw, rough hewn, or reclaimed woods
  • large scale furniture
  • stone hearths, backsplashes, and other elements
  • worn leather
  • rustic, distressed looks
  • lantern-like lights and rustic lighting
  • big rooms
  • antlers and horns
  • high ceilings / vaulted ceilings
  • vast expanses of windows
  • log walls (with chinking)
  • log railings, accent beams, and furniture
  • hardwood floors
  • soft rugs
  • themes (such as skiing, hunting, or the Old West)
  • natural, often rugged look
  • rugs and chairs with animal patterns
  • iron balustrades for staircases
  • stone bathrooms
  • large scale
  • more masculine style

The cabin or mountain interior design style doesn’t tend to work well with any other design styles, except, perhaps, for eclectic. Generally, if you opt for this unique style, it is better to use the design throughout your entire home, townhome, or condo.
